Sound Masking and Paging

Communications Solutions provides white noise and sound masking systems from Lencore, a leading provider in the industry. What is white noise and sound masking?

White noise is a type of noise that is produced by combining sounds of all different frequencies together. If you took all of the imaginable tones that a human can hear and combined them together, you would have white noise. Because white noise contains all frequencies, it is frequently used to mask other sounds. If you are in a hotel and voices from the room next-door are leaking into your room, you might turn on a fan to drown out the voices. The fan produces a good approximation of white noise. You can’t operate your business in a space that’s as quiet as a library, or as noisy as a restaurant. You must add a little sound to get the right “signal to sound” ratio.

Sound Masking Solutions

You know what happens when you’re in a library and you move your chair or tap your pen.  The same is true in our daily workplaces: we’re surrounded by too many sounds within buildings designed to be quiet. That, in a nutshell, is why most offices are so noisy.  It’s easy to understand why building materials like sound-absorbing wall panels are needed. What’s harder to grasp is why adding sound back into an environment gives you control of sound levels overall. By virtue of this control, you improve the functioning acoustics of a space so your employees can; speak without having their conversations understood by others (speech privacy); better concentrate without distraction (greater productivity); and more.

Sound Masking and Paging

Paging and Audio Solutions

Whether it is audio or paging throughout the building, a specific floor, department or office, Lencore has a solution to meet your needs. This solution enables the paging and audio to be completely adjustable and independent both centrally and locally.

Sound Masking and Paging

Lencore’s engineered solution delivers audio and intelligible paging in one of three ways:

  • Independently as a designed system
  • As an integral part of a solution delivering sound masking, audio and paging, virtually giving you three systems for the price of one
  • By integrating with independent, existing speaker components

Lencore designs system layouts to meet the Sound Transmission Index for Public Address (STIPA) which helps to determine intelligibility within a space. A page should be well understood – not just loud.

One of the driving components for Lencore’s success in audio and paging is the Music Page Interface Rack Unit (MPI.) With the MPI there is no need for additional cable home-runs, amplifiers, separate equalizers, special switching equipment or matching vendors for compatible product interfaces. In fact, the MPI technology is so sophisticated that it can make zone additions, modifications, deletions and other changes to the paging system on the fly, without rewiring. This eliminates the need for running multiple home runs back to the electrical closet or through building risers to create separate or additional zones.

The MPI provides the ability to program up to 100 zones including an all call/emergency broadcast page, using standard DTMF tones through a POTS telephone wire. The system is also programmed for all call and emergency broadcast paging. The system’s easy to use full one octave band equalizer can be adjusted to either individual zones or can be adjusted for all zones – providing exceptional fine tuning capabilities.
